Gradient transition

Is there a way to create a gradient transition? Layer masks are close, but I couldn't figure out how to make it into a transition.

Hi Medhi! Thanks for sending this compo!

This is almost what I'm going for, but I'd like to use a custom gradient - I should've rendered out what I'm aiming for.

I've attached the greyscale hexagon grid I'd like to use as the gradient source. And I've linked to a video that shows what I'd like to accomplish in Smode - created this in After Effects with the gradient transition effect.

I was swamped when you sent this and I just now dove back into smode and tried this out.
