A modern particle system should be able to render particles as ribbons. Are there any developments in that area?If there are none, there should be!
Try the "Motion Lines" 3d operator, that's I think what we have closest.(Render them with "Thick Lines" to get ribbons)
Oh, stupid me! It's a modifier, not a renderer! But anyway, once the simulation is stopped (sim speed = 0), the trails disappear. Not good, imho.
Yep, and the other problem is that as soon as a particle dies, the full line disappears.We have an old issue about this (jun 2015), but progressing on this effect needs a fully new implementation to be full-GPU. (for the moment it's an effect that still uses a download from GPU + CPU progress + upload to GPU...)I'll let it know here if there is some news about this.
