layer order

Is there any chance the order of the layers could be swapped in the future? Highest priority layer on top, lowest at the bottom?

out of scope elements

It would be nice if the out of scope elements in a timeline would be ordered the same way as in the Elements window

groups of timeline markers

the ability to group timemarkers so it is easy to activate them at once.
I use a lot of time-markers in my show. Sometimes I used them to create a short version of timeline using the GOTO functions. If I could make groups of timemarkers I would be able to activate/deactivate them at once.

split timeline view

a view where controls and content can be split.
Because of the large amount of info in the timeline a split timelinescreen would be helpfull. Could be same info but different scope.

Hello Bert,

• layer order: old debate. My main issue about this is consistency: for the moment everything in Smode can be interpreted from the top to the bottom, similarly to a kind of "program" that's executed step-by-step. More than layers that are stacked, we see it as rendering instructions that are execute from the first to the last. This is way, Smode's layer order has historically always been top-to-bottom.
  This being said, I understand that this is counter-intuitive for most users, since all other layer-based applications use the bottom-to-top order.
  What I'm afraid if we invert the order is that: either, we need do it everywhere for consistency (also in modifiers stacks, in masks, 3d renderers, ...) but it seems to wired in some cases, because this interpretation as "rendering instructions" steps is really important the understand the precise behavior of the engine in some cases, or, we only the change the order of layers in compos/scene, but then it isn't really consistent anymore.

• out of scope elements In principle you should not need any out-of-scope track, thanks to the fact that tools that are in the roots of the setup (e.g. in the stage) are automatically exposed in the timelines of the master-scene. Anyway, you're right, it would be better if they were sorted correctly, I've created an issue about this.

• groups of timeline markers ok, I've created an issue. To be sure: you mean one timeline marker that has a "Group" action, made of a custom list of actions?

• split timeline view I'm not sure to understand what you're asking for. You want to have two different views on the same timeline, at different locations? Did you try creating a "Timeline" by right clicking next to the "Parameters" / "History" / ... ?

We're going to release version 8.3 soon, so nothing will happen in the short term, but after that we decide the priorities for the 8.4, so it's a good time to report

• layer order: get your point. Can live with that

• out of scope elements: sometimes we have "subscenes" where we use common elements to send commands to our robots.

• groups of timeline markers: I want to be able to activate/deactivate several time markers at once.

• split timeline view: it's a temporary solution. But it would be very usefull to have it in the same window, split.
  Indeed 2 views on the same timeline, but can be on the same location.

• new item :-D: ability to save configurations in a user-named file. So configs can be easily swapped (between different servers)

Hi Bert,
Sadly no, you still need to copy/backup files of %AppData%\Roaming\Smode Station\configs folder.
May be something will came soon. I will keep you informed.
