You have 3 approach to perform such things in Smode
You can share instance of your mesh and customize each instance placement like this:
Create new instance by control+drag shared element.
Then modify your instance placement type from "Position Orientation" into "Position Orientation and Size, then you can change the size of your instance.
The second approach is to use a repeat modifier allowing you to directly instanciate your mesh multiple time and applying placement modification for each instance repeatedly.
For the third approach, you can also Instanciate your mesh on each vertex of another mesh (like a box or a particle system)
And play with Point Scale Function, depending of an vertex attribute like age depth...
