Updates and auto downloads of them

Sometimes when I choose to update Smode station it downloads an .exe. Other times it downloads what seems to be the package all unzipped that I have to go into program files and replace. Is there something I am doing wrong when i click check for updates?

Just for explanation:
We currently release two kind of installer:
* One executable for standard deployment on new computer with external dependencies.
* But also a "portable" edition (.zip) allowing, when dependencies are already present, to made multiple version of Smode works on a same computer.

"Check for update" should only download .exe files if you are using a stable version.

What is your Smode Station Version ?
Are you using a Beta Version ?

SO for example to check this today I started station and went to the Preferences pane and clicked check for update. It said your smode is 8.4.842 it is older then 8.4.848. Do you want to download the new version.

When i clicked download it did the portable zip.

I do not believe i am part of the beta program.

8.4.842 is cleary a beta, that is why. Sorry for this.
8.4 Stable is 8.4.38.

Do I just need to unintall and then find that version? And how do I find what the current stable install is?

Also what is a way to tell if it is a beta. is that usually with the 3rd number in the last sectoin 8.x.xxx instead of 8.x.xx

To know if Smode is a beta,
Just check the branch name,
If the branch name is not a Number like 8.3 or 8.4... but a text like "master", it is a special non public version of Smode

The Smode Versionning form is MM.mm.ccc.sha (8.4.38.2d9c426d64)
MM: 8 is the Major version, huge change: Licensing, major features set and possible breaking changes...
mm: 4 is the minor version, small change, new features but no fundamental rewriting.
ccc: 38 is the number of changes and fixes since the last minor version is out.
2d9c426d64 is a unique identifier for developement purpose allowing to know the date of release and many other details.

A good hint to know if a build is a beta is a big ccc number (842): Near to the next 8.5 release. (like 8.4.842)

You can manually download all versions kind on the usual download web site (sent from a separate email)
